Uzbekistan launches new transit route connecting China to Afghanistan via Central Asia

KABUL: Uzbekistan’s national railway company has confirmed the launch of a new multimodal transit corridor for transporting goods from China to Afghanistan through Central Asia.
According to a report by Trend News Agency, citing the logistics and transport company Uztemiryulcontainer, a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways, the route will involve rail and road transport.
Under this plan, containerized goods will first be transported by rail from China to the Altynkol station in Kazakhstan, then moved to the Bukhara logistics center in Uzbekistan. From there, the cargo will be delivered by trucks through Turkmenistan to Herat province in Afghanistan.
The new corridor is approximately 7,400 kilometers long, with an estimated transit time of around 30 days, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce delivery times.
Previously, most goods from China to Afghanistan were shipped by sea to Bandar Abbas in Iran and then transported overland.
Afghan authorities have consistently expressed support for regional connectivity projects, emphasizing the country’s growing role as a transit hub in the region.
