KABUL: Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, met with JD Vance during a visit to Washington.
Al Thani said in a post on X early Saturday that the meeting focused on ways to strengthen the “strategic partnership and close cooperation between the two friendly countries.”
Before traveling to Washington, the Qatari Prime Minister told the media outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that there is a “high possibility” of the United States and Iran reaching an agreement.
Following his meeting with Vance, Al Thani wrote, “ We support diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability and achieving lasting peace in the region and around the world.”
The senior Qatari official’s remarks come as Marco Rubio recently said the White House is awaiting Iran’s latest response regarding a draft proposal aimed at ending the conflict.
Rubio, who is currently in Italy, told reporters: “We are waiting for Iran’s response and we will see what that response contains. There is hope that it will be something that moves us into a serious negotiation process.”
Meanwhile, senior Iranian diplomats have said that the United States has repeatedly responded to diplomacy with military actions and provocations.
