Deadly explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaves 9 dead, 35 injured

KABUL: At least nine people have lost their lives and 35 others have been injured in a deadly explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed.

Hamidullah Khan, deputy district governor of Lakki Marwat, told Anadolu Agency that the blast occurred before noon on Tuesday in the town of Sarai Naurang in Lakki Marwat district.

According to Khan, two police officers were among those killed, while the condition of 10 injured victims has been described as critical.

He said the bomb was likely planted in a three-wheeled cargo rickshaw and detonated in a crowded market area.

Speaking by phone, Khan said: “I am currently at the hospital, and so far nine bodies have been brought here. At least 35 injured people are also receiving treatment.”

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

Earlier this week, a militant group calling itself Ittihad al-Mujahideen carried out a coordinated assault on a police facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing nearly 20 Pakistani police officers.
