Turkish President to visit Kazakhstan for talks on expanding strategic partnership

KABUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to travel to Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, on an official visit at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on Wednesday.

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency, the leaders of Turkey and Kazakhstan are expected to review the future of bilateral relations between Ankara and Astana, which have been elevated to the level of an “enhanced strategic partnership.”

Discussions between the two presidents will also focus on new cooperation initiatives in the sectors of energy, transportation, trade, and defense industries.

Erdoğan and Tokayev are also expected to jointly chair the sixth Turkey-Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.

Political analysts in both Turkey and Kazakhstan have described Erdoğan’s visit as a new phase in the expansion of strategic ties between Ankara and Astana.
