Mines Minister inspects TAPI equipment transfer during Turkmenistan visit

KABUL: Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, during his visit to Turkmenistan, visited Turkmenbashi Port to inspect the transfer of equipment for the TAPI gas pipeline project into Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday.
According to a statement released by ministry spokesman Homayoun Afghan, 63 kilometers of gas pipeline have so far been laid in Afghanistan’s western Herat province, while another 125 kilometers of land has been prepared for pipeline installation.
Officials added that pipes and equipment required for an additional 51 kilometers of pipeline construction have already been transported to the project site.
“Practical work on the TAPI project has accelerated compared to the past. Currently, around 500 meters of new pipeline are being welded every day, indicating rapid progress in implementing the project,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has previously stated that pipeline construction for the TAPI project inside Afghanistan, particularly in Herat province, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The TAPI project is a major regional energy initiative designed to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India.
