KABUL: The United States Navy has confirmed that at least two of its fighter jets collided mid-air and crashed during an aerial demonstration in the United States.
Reuters reported early Monday, citing U.S. Navy officials, that all four pilots aboard the two aircraft successfully ejected and survived the incident.
According to Amelia Umayam, spokesperson for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Air Forces, the two Boeing EA-18G Growler jets collided while performing during an air show near Mountain Home Air Force Base.
Video footage circulating online showed the aircraft striking each other in the air before crashing to the ground and bursting into flames after the pilots ejected.
Umayam said the incident is under investigation and additional details will be released as they become available.
Authorities also confirmed that Mountain Home Air Force Base was temporarily closed following the crash.
The “Gunfighter Skies” event marked the first air show held at the base since 2018. During the 2018 show, a pilot was killed after his aircraft crashed.
