China and Russia agree to further extend “Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation”

KABUL: Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping agreed on Wednesday to further extend the “Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation” between Russia and China during talks in Beijing.
According to Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday, the two leaders met in Beijing and discussed strengthening long-term strategic coordination between their countries.
Xi said the treaty, signed 25 years ago, established the legal and institutional foundation for lasting friendship, good-neighborly relations, and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Beijing and Moscow.
He added that the international environment was undergoing profound changes and warned that the world faced the risk of returning to the “law of the jungle.”
“In such circumstances, the advanced nature, scientific value, and practical significance of the treaty have become more prominent than ever,” Xi said.
Putin, for his part, said relations between Russia and China had withstood numerous challenges and grown stronger over time, evolving into a model of comprehensive strategic coordination
The Russian president described cooperation between Moscow and Beijing as an important factor for stability amid what he called an increasingly unstable international situation.
The treaty was last extended in 2021 during a virtual meeting between the two leaders.
