KABUL: Sergey Lavrov told Marco Rubio in a phone call that Russia has begun “systematic and continuous” strikes against Ukrainian military facilities and decision-making centers in Kyiv.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Lavrov said the attacks were launched in response to continued Ukrainian strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure inside Russian territory.
The Russian foreign minister also urged the United States to evacuate its diplomats and citizens from Kyiv.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry had issued a separate warning calling on foreign nationals, including diplomatic staff and employees of international organizations, to leave Kyiv as soon as possible.
