Ukraine launches unprecedented drone attack on Russia’s St. Petersburg, Moscow claims

KABUL: Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out an unprecedented drone attack on the city of St. Petersburg and the surrounding areas.

The assault reportedly took place while the city was hosting the final day of an economic forum. The governor of the Leningrad region, Aleksandr Drozdenko, said Russian air defense forces shot down more than 140 drones. Authorities urged residents to remain inside their homes for safety.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces struck Russian weapons depots and a naval base, describing the operations as a “just response” to Russian attacks.

The developments come a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to Zelenskyy’s call for direct talks to end the war, saying he sees “no point” in meeting him.
