KABUL: Germany and France have agreed to cancel their joint project to develop a new generation of military aircraft, bringing an end to one of Europe’s largest and most important defense programs.
According to Reuters citing officials familiar with the matter, competition between defense companies in the two countries and disagreements over industrial interests were among the main reasons behind the project’s cancellation. These issues had reportedly slowed the program’s progress and created significant obstacles.
The project was launched to strengthen Europe’s defense autonomy and develop advanced next-generation military aircraft. However, longstanding disputes between the partners ultimately undermined its implementation.
The decision has also raised questions about the future of European defense cooperation and the prospects for other large-scale joint military projects across the continent.
