KABUL: Keir Starmer may announce his resignation as United Kingdom Prime Minister on Monday, Britain’s The Observer newspaper has reported.
According to the report, Starmer reached the decision after consulting his cabinet, senior advisers, business leaders, and major Labour Party donors, concluding that it is no longer possible for him to remain in office under the current political circumstances.
The newspaper quoted a Labour Party member as saying that although Starmer recognizes he no longer has sufficient support within the party to retain power, he wants to ensure an orderly transition rather than step down abruptly.
The report adds that Starmer has come under increasing political pressure after his rival, Andy Burnham, strengthened his influence within the Labour Party by winning a parliamentary seat in a recent by-election.
