KABUL: The first round of high-level peace talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations has concluded in Switzerland, with mediators saying the negotiations began under the shadow of heightened political and security tensions.
According to Reuters, Iran reiterated its threat to close the Strait of Hormuz as the talks are underway. The strategic waterway is one of the world’s most important routes for global oil and energy shipments.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump renewed warnings of possible military action against Iran, further undermining trust between the two sides.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the report says both delegations are seeking to prevent further escalation through diplomacy and to find a political solution to the ongoing crisis.
