Two killed, five injured in shooting at Toronto Salsa Festival

KABUL: Two people were killed and five others injured in a shooting during the annual Salsa Festival in Toronto, Canadian police said.

In a statement posted on X, Toronto Police said the incident occurred at 8:12 p.m. local time on Saturday in the city’s Midtown area.

Two victims died at the scene, while five injured people were taken to hospital for treatment, said the statement, but have not yet released details about the suspect, the motive behind the shooting, or whether anyone has been arrested.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “horrified” by the incident in a post on X, expressing condolences to the victims’ families.

He also pledged the federal government’s full support for law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The Toronto Salsa Festival is an annual cultural celebration of the city’s Latin American community, and this year’s event marked its 22nd edition.
