KABUL: Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, during his visit to Kabul, met with Afghanistan’s Prime Minister, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, where the two sides emphasized the expansion of bilateral economic, trade, and political cooperation.
According to Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, Khodjayev said the visit by Uzbekistan’s large economic delegation, including ministers, government officials, business leaders, and investors, aims to begin the practical implementation of agreements on trade and investment.
He added that Afghanistan holds an important place in Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.
“Afghanistan’s exports to Uzbekistan reached $150 million last year, while exports have totaled $111 million since the beginning of the current year,” Khodjayev noted, adding that Uzbekistan has so far issued 5,000 visas to Afghan citizens.
Meanwhile, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund described the Uzbek delegation’s visit as an important step toward strengthening bilateral ties, saying that expanding economic cooperation reflects Uzbekistan’s confidence in Afghanistan’s future. He reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to implementing existing agreements and further deepening relations with Uzbekistan.
