KABUL: Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi has emphasized the importance of implementing development and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan during a meeting with Turhan Saleh, the newly appointed Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed UNDP’s development activities in Afghanistan, the reintegration of returning refugees, cooperation in the health and agriculture sectors, alternative livelihoods to narcotics cultivation, environmental protection, climate change, and responses to natural disasters.
During the meeting, Muttaqi stressed that, in addition to humanitarian assistance, development and infrastructure projects are essential for Afghanistan’s long-term progress, adding that the Islamic Emirate remains committed to continued cooperation with the United Nations in these areas.
Meanwhile, Turhan Saleh reaffirmed that UNDP’s programmes will remain aligned with Afghanistan’s development priorities and said the organization would continue supporting development initiatives and capacity-building efforts based on the needs of the Afghan people.
