KABUL: The Islamic Emirate has approved Afghanistan’s five-year national development strategy, which was drafted over the past year and approved by the country’s leadership after receiving approval from the Economic Commission, spokesperson Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid said.
Speaking at the second “Government in the Mirror of the Media” conference, Mujahid said the strategy is built around three main pillars and 15 priority programs aimed at advancing good governance, the rule of law, public security, and the country’s economic and social development.
Quoting information from the Ministry of Economy, he added that the development budget for the 1405 fiscal year has been prepared in line with the priority programs outlined in the strategy.
Key priorities include creating a favorable environment for investment, expanding industry and trade, attracting foreign direct investment, promoting small and medium-sized enterprises, boosting domestic tourism, advancing sustainable agriculture, and developing industrial zones.
The government also said it plans to implement targeted initiatives to substitute imports with domestic production and strengthen support for local industries.
