KABUL: Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, says the joint defense agreement between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is technically similar to Article 5 of the NATO treaty, under which an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.
Fidan emphasized that the agreement is not directed against Iran and is based on the principle of mutual defense among the three countries.
He added that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan wants to expand the alliance, while Egypt has also been mentioned as a potential future member.
