Syrian court sentences Bashar al-Assad to death in Absentia

KABUL: A court in Syria today (Tuesday, August 11) sentenced former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia.

According to reports, Assad was found guilty in the case of premeditated murder, torture, arbitrary detention, and crimes against humanity committed during Syria’s nearly 14-year war.

The verdict comes as Bashar al-Assad has escaped to Russia following the end of his rule in Syria.
