KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has said that after defeating Iran, he intends to declare the Strait of Hormuz U.S. territory.
Reuters reported that Trump made the remarks Friday, August 14, during a political rally in New York, saying that the strategic waterway would soon be declared U.S. territory following what he described as Iran’s defeat.
The comments come amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States over control and security in the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic has reportedly declined sharply.
The Strait of Hormuz lies between Iran and Oman and is one of the world’s most important routes for the transportation of oil and other energy supplies.
