KABUL: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has described the latest U.S. sanctions against Tehran as more than economic warfare, calling them a “declaration of war” against all countries.
Baghaei said Washington is seeking to impose extraterritorial authority over sovereign states, arguing that no country has the right to prevent banks, companies or airports in other countries from conducting legitimate trade with third countries.
He described U.S. secondary sanctions as lacking a legal basis and said they violate the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
The Iranian spokesperson also warned that combining sanctions with a maritime blockade could undermine national sovereignty and lead to a return to colonialism.
