KABUL: Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, says Tehran will announce a new designated area near the Strait of Hormuz within the next few days.
Rezaei said Iran has also reached an agreement with Oman to establish a new maritime route for vessel traffic, and details of the route are expected to be announced in the coming days.
According to Rezaei, part of the new route will pass through Omani waters, while another section will be located in Iranian waters.
The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has previously said that no country other than Iran would be allowed to determine or alter the status of the strategic waterway.
