Moscow: Russia ready for talks with Washington on Ukraine

KABUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says U.S. President Donald Trump’s representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on the war in Ukraine and ways to resolve the conflict.

Lavrov said various reports and rumors have emerged about the details of the talks, but Washington has not yet made clear what specific diplomatic steps it plans to take next.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that two key elements of Trump’s position on Ukraine are opposition to Ukraine’s membership in NATO and recognition of the existing “ground realities” of the war.

According to Lavrov, Washington’s position has received a positive response from Moscow and strengthened Russia’s readiness to continue talks with the United States.
