KABUL: The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 7,022, while the death toll from the disease has risen to 3,398, Reuters reported.
According to Reuters, the outbreak has now spread to seven provinces of Congo, with a new case identified in Sud-Ubangi province in the northwest of the country.
The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo species of Ebola virus and has become the largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak in Congo’s history, according to the report.
It is also the second-largest Ebola outbreak in the world after the 2014–2016 outbreak in West Africa.
