U.S. may sell 48 F-35 Fighter Jets to Saudi Arabia

KABUL: The U.S. State Department says Washington may sell 48 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, the $24.3 billion deal would include the fighter aircraft as well as communications equipment.

Reuters reported that the agreement would require approval from the U.S. Congress to be finalized. Saudi Arabia has described the proposed deal as part of defense cooperation between the two countries.

The potential sale comes as fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement has escalated in recent weeks, with both sides carrying out some of their most extensive attacks against each other.
