KABUL: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said the continued killing of civilians, including children, and restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza are deeply concerning, stressing that London will not stand by as the situation deteriorates.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Burnham said Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank do not justify the humanitarian suffering, adding that too many people have been killed and too little aid is reaching Gaza.
He also described Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory as unlawful and warned that the expansion of the E1 settlement project in the West Bank threatens the viability of a future Palestinian state. The UK has previously said the E1 project risks separating the West Bank from East Jerusalem and undermining a two-state solution.
Burnham called for an end to the war in Gaza and for peace and security between Israelis and Palestinians, reiterating the UK’s support for a two-state solution.
