FM Muttaqi, Chinese Special Envoy discuss expanding bilateral cooperation

KABUL: Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Yue Xiaoyong, China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, on the sidelines of the eighth Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan, discussing bilateral relations, regional developments and ways to expand cooperation.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on X that the two sides exchanged views on Afghanistan-China relations, developments in the region and the expansion of joint cooperation.

Muttaqi appreciated what he described as China’s “constructive and balanced” position toward Afghanistan and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Yue Xiaoyong also described Afghanistan-China relations as positive and shared China’s views on regional developments with the Afghan side.

He emphasized the importance of joint efforts to strengthen regional stability, expand mutual cooperation, and promote Afghanistan’s economic and regional connectivity.
