KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized the Nobel Committee’s decision to award this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, saying the decision has left a “stain of disgrace on Norway.”
Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, New York, on Thursday, Trump described Pillay, a former judge of the International Criminal Court, as an unknown figure and said he had never heard of her before.
Expressing his dissatisfaction at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize himself, Trump called the decision shameful and claimed that the award had lost its credibility.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay. She oversaw the preparation of a United Nations report on the situation in Gaza, which described Israel’s actions in the territory as genocide.
