KABUL: To prevent potential violence and attacks on sensitive government installations, officials of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, have imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for one month.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir said the restrictions would remain in effect until November 8, and based on the order, all public gatherings, demonstrations, and assemblies of five or more people are prohibited across the district.
Officials said there were concerns that certain groups might attempt to attack major highways, key institutions, and sensitive government installations to achieve their objectives.
The decision to enforce Section 144 in Rawalpindi comes as Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail, while his party continues efforts to organize protests.
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also announced that he will lead the PTI protest and continue the march toward Islamabad.
Earlier, Section 144 had also been imposed in Islamabad for two months beginning September 18, and in Lahore until October 15.
