Western Media: Explosion in Bandar Abbas Caused by “Sodium Perchlorate”

KABUL: The massive and devastating explosion in Bandar Abbas was caused by the chemical “sodium perchlorate,” The New York Times citing Iranian officials reported this morning.

According to the report, an official from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that a shipment containing solid sodium chlorate, used as rocket fuel, exploded at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas.

This shipment reportedly arrived at the port last month (March).

However, the Iranian government has not officially commented on the explosion or its causes, but the Ministry of Health has declared a state of emergency in the area due to the release of chemical substances.

The latest information from the Iranian Ministry of Interior shows that nearly 10 people lost their lives, and over 750 were injured in the explosion that occurred yesterday afternoon at Shahid Rajaee Port.
