KABUL: The Ministry of Finance said in a statement today that monitoring and mobile teams of the General Customs Directorate have prevented the smuggling of about 35,000 kilograms of illegal goods into the country.
According to the statement, smugglers attempted to bring this quantity of goods into the country without paying customs duties in the provinces of Nimroz, Kandahar, Farah, and Helmand.
The smuggled items included human and animal medicines, sweets, foodstuffs, clothing, tobacco, detergents, and other items.
The Ministry of Finance added that some smugglers have been arrested in connection with the smuggling attempts, although no specific numbers were provided.
The monitoring and mobile teams will not allow any individual or group to smuggle goods into or out of the country, said the statement.
The country’s security and defense forces are also working to prevent any form of smuggling along the country’s borders and along hypothetical lines.
