KABUL: Gholam Hossein Mozaffari, the governor of Khorasan Razavi, said that Tehran and Kabul are starting cooperation on the extraction of precious stones, Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.
Mozaffari stated that Afghanistan, with its valuable precious stone mines, is a trade partner for Iran, and Efforts are currently underway to establish a “special economic and mining zone” between the two countries, which is in the planning phase.
He emphasized that the goal of creating this trade zone in the Azad Dogharun area is to process and sell Afghanistan’s precious stones and provide the country with access to global markets.
“We have good experience in the processing of precious stones and, with the help of Afghan traders, we can develop this sector to a global level,” he said.
This is while Iranian media reported that the country’s traders seeking to invest around $5 billion in Afghanistan’s mining sector.
