PARUN: Local officials in Nuristan province have announced that precious stones extracted from the region have been sold for a total of 42,814,200 Afghanis, the governor’s press office said in a statement on Saturday night.
According to the statement, the stones including Beirut and kunzite, were sold through a bidding process, with 4,281,000 Afghanis of that amount deposited into government revenues.
Local officials stated that the stones were extracted from the “Mawi” mines located in the Duab district of Nuristan.
The bidding ceremony was conducted transparently with a committee representing various government departments.
However, the statement did not specify the quantity of stones sold.
Previously, precious stones extracted from Nuristan mines had been sold in a bidding event for 30 million Afghanis.
