UN expresses concern over potential deportation of Afghan migrants from Tajikistan

KABUL: The officials of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Afghanistan have expressed concern regarding the potential deportation of Afghan migrants from Tajikistan.

Arafat Jamal, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Afghanistan, in an exclusive interview with Radio Omid in Kabul said that the Tajik government has reportedly set a deadline for the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants, although no concrete actions have been taken yet.

He emphasized that in recent months, approximately 1.6 million Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran and Pakistan back to Afghanistan.

Mr. Jamal noted that the forced deportations from Iran have intensified recently.

Additionally, he stated that the UN is working closely with the Islamic Emirate authorities to provide necessary assistance to returning Afghan citizens at border crossings and along the Durand Line.

Recently, media reported about the possible deportation of Afghan migrants from Tajikistan.
