UN praises Islamic Emirate’s management of returning migrants

KABUL: Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, during a meeting with Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanifi, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs and head of the High Commission for Addressing Migrant Issues praised the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan efforts in managing the Afghan returning process, Arg said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the UNHCR chief emphasized the importance of the reintegration of Afghan returnees into society, stating that the organization will do everything in its power to assist in this effort.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the number of returning migrants has significantly increased, with 30,000 to 35,000 individuals entering the country daily through the Islam Qala crossing.

Hanifi expressed that the Islamic Emirate welcomes any mechanisms that help resolve the issues faced by migrants and seeks cooperation from the UNHCR and other aid organizations regarding permanent housing, reintegration of returnees, and additional assistance.

Since his arrival in Afghanistan, Filippo Grandi has met with several Islamic Emirate officials, including the acting Foreign Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, and is scheduled to visit the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province.
