KABUL: A tripartite meeting among delegations from Afghanistan, Iran, and the United Nations is set to take place soon in Kabul, to discuss the issue of Afghan migrants being expelled from Iran.
Arafat Jamal, head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Afghanistan, in a meeting with Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the Acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriations, said about the upcoming technical meeting, noting that Iranian officials have expressed their readiness to participate.
The meeting will involve comprehensive discussions on the challenges faced by returning Afghan migrants and Afghans residing in Iran.
Additionally, a multilateral meeting is planned in Qatar, aimed at addressing the issues of Afghan migrants, with participation from representatives of Afghanistan and international organizations.
Mawlavi Abdul Kabir emphasized the importance of the tripartite meeting and expressed the ministry’s readiness to participate.
He also called for international assistance to address the challenges faced by returning Afghan migrants, asserting that the Afghan government has not withheld any support for them.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the agenda, participant numbers, and other relevant matters related to the forthcoming tripartite meeting, which follows the recent visit of the UNHCR head to Afghanistan and Iran.
