Afghanistan exported goods worth $1.7 billion to various countries in past year

KABUL: The National Statistics and Information Authority said that Afghanistan has exported goods worth $1.7 billion to various countries over the past year, primarily to Pakistan, India, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.

Abdul Qahar Haji Idris, head of the National Statistics and Information Authority, speaking at the government accountability program to the nation said today that Afghanistan’s key export items include figs, cotton, raisins, rugs, and precious and semi-precious stones.

According to him, the country also saw imports valued at $11.7 billion during the same period.

35,000 citizens from various countries traveled to Afghanistan through land and air crossings, over the past year.

He noted that 1,451 individuals were hired through open competition at the National Statistics and Information Authority, with over 500 receiving capacity-building training, and 40 individuals were dismissed for non-compliance with regulations, and 128 warnings were issued.

To enhance access to government services, five service centers were opened last year in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Helmand, and Nangarhar, raising the total number of such centers to 11.

Haji Idris estimated Afghanistan’s total population in the year 1404 (Solar Hijri) at 36.4 million, with 51% being male and 49% female.

The authority stated that over the past year, 2,404,000 electronic ID cards were distributed, of which 600,000 were issued to women.

Mawlavi Mohammad Nabi Nasrat, Deputy for Civil Registration and Population, emphasized that the majority of ID cards were distributed in Kabul, and since the start of the distribution process, a total of 16 million ID cards have been issued.
