Over 130 Afghan citizens released from Pakistani prisons

KABUL: The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations has announced that 131 Afghan migrants residing in Pakistan have recently been released from the country’s prisons.

According to a statement from the ministry on Thursday, the freed individuals entered Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province yesterday.

The statement stated that the individuals had been detained and imprisoned by police forces in various regions of Pakistan.

While the reasons for their arrests were not specified, it has been reported previously that Afghan citizens have been detained by Pakistani police even when holding legal residency documents.

The recently released individuals each spent between one to six days in Pakistani prisons.

After receiving necessary humanitarian assistance at the Spin Boldak crossing, they were sent to their home regions.

This comes amid ongoing arrests of Afghan migrants in Pakistan by the country’s police.

The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs stated yesterday to the Pakistani Foreign Minister that the rights of Afghan migrants in Pakistan must not be violated.
