KABUL: In response to Israel’s plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is holding its 21st extraordinary meeting in Saudi Arabia, attended by senior officials.
Qatar News Agency reported on Sunday evening that a preliminary meeting for the emergency session with the participation of foreign ministers of member countries took place to discuss the “continued aggressions by Israel against the Palestinian people” at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah.
Dr. Nuh Yilmaz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, who led the preliminary meeting, stated that the extraordinary session will address the “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, ongoing state terrorism, and violence from settlers in the West Bank.”
He noted that Israel has “recreated genocide in the 21st century,” with horrifying images of innocent civilians, children, and infants dying from bullets or starvation in Gaza shocking the world.
Yilmaz emphasized that the agenda for the extraordinary meeting should focus on establishing an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, facilitating unhindered humanitarian aid through the UN and credible international organizations, expanding the coalition supporting Palestine, and strengthening the two-state solution and coordination for sanctions against Israel.
This comes amid strong reactions from Islamic countries regarding Israel’s plans for the total occupation of the Gaza Strip.
