Economy Minister, UNICEF head discuss addressing refugees’ issues

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Minister of Economy, Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, has met with Dr. Tajudeen Oyewale, the head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The Ministry said that both sides discussed effective solutions to the problems faced by refugees and the provision of necessary facilities.

The Minister expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s ongoing cooperation and requested an increase in the number of staff from relevant organizations, particularly from the Afghan Red Crescent Society, to enhance access to clean drinking water and other basic services for refugees at the Torkham transit camp.

The UNICEF chief assured comprehensive cooperation and provided information on humanitarian assistance and services for affected families, particularly in earthquake-stricken areas and the eastern provinces.

The Minister highlighted the importance of UNICEF’s efforts in delivering essential services, food assistance, and child health care, expressing hope that such collaborations will expand further.
