Health Ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan meet in Riyadh to discuss eradicating Polio

KABUL: Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, met with his Pakistani counterpart, Mustafa Kamal, in the presence of Fahd Al-Jalajel, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health, in Riyadh,

Saudi Gazette reported on Wednesday night.

The meeting, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the “Global place,” the participants focused on joint efforts to eradicate polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

According to published information, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, head of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), and Chris Elias, Vice President of Global Development at the Gates Foundation, were also present at the meeting.

The discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to completely eliminate polio and address challenges that have hindered vaccination efforts.

The health ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan committed to continuing their joint efforts to eradicate polio, coordinating vaccination campaigns, and raising public awareness to increase vaccination rates in high-risk areas.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world where polio remains endemic.
