Two check dams to be constructed in Kandahar

KANDAHAR: Construction work on two check dams worth 14 million Afghanis, has been kicked off in the Gorak and Nesh districts of Kandahar province.
The provincial Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Department stated that the project is being implemented with financial support from the European Union, technical collaboration from partner organizations, and oversight by the Department of Natural Resources.
According to sources, the first check dam is located in Lion Valley of Gorak district and is being constructed with the technical support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at a cost of 11 million Afghanis.
The second check dam is being built in the village of Bagha in Nesh district, with a value of 3 million Afghanis, with technical assistance from (KRO).
The statement indicates that the construction work of the check dams will be completed within the next four months.
It is noted that the Gorak check dam will have a storage capacity of 50,000 cubic meters of water, while the Nesh check dam will store 15,000 cubic meters of water.
