KABUL: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Works, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, said in a statement today that a delegation led by Mawlavi Mohammad Ishaq Sahebzada, the Deputy Minister for Railways traveled to Uzbekistan to participate in the “International Transport and Logistics Forum and Exhibition.”
According to the statement, the forum and exhibition were held from November 11 to 13 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Officials from various countries around the world and the region participated in the meeting, where projects, achievements, and new technologies in the field of transport and logistics were introduced and showcased.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Afghan delegation held separate bilateral meetings with representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries involved in the Afghan Trans project.
The statement mentioned that discussions during the meetings covered several important topics, including the construction of the Herat-Kandahar railway line and its practical initiation, reducing the transit costs for Afghan commercial goods from China and vice versa through Kazakhstan, starting technical and economic studies for the Afghan Trans project, and facilitating and reducing costs for the transport of commercial goods via the railway line in Uzbekistan, along with providing additional facilities for traders.
This comes at a time when Afghanistan, with its strategic location, plays a crucial role in connecting the Central Asian region with South and Southeast Asia.
