KABUL: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that significant progress has been made in peace talks with the United States in Geneva. However, he emphasized that Russia’s demand for official recognition of its control over occupied territories in Eastern Ukraine is unacceptable.
Zelensky warned that agreeing to this demand would grant concessions to Russian forces and pose dangerous consequences for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Reports indicate that the meeting in Switzerland focused on ways to end the conflict, with both sides expressing hope for continued dialogue.
Nevertheless, substantial disagreements remain between Moscow and Kyiv regarding territory cession and security guarantees.
U.S. President Donald Trump remarked on social media after the talks, suggesting that while good news may be on the horizon, it should not be trusted until it materializes.
It is worth noting that no Russian representatives attended the meeting, and the Kremlin has stated that it is unaware of the outcomes of the Geneva discussions.
