KABUL: As negotiations intensify on the peace front in Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced significant progress, noting that only a few contentious issues remain.
In a message on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Tuesday night, Trump stated that approximately 25,000 soldiers have been killed in the ongoing conflict within the past month, although he did not specify the warring parties involved.
He mentioned that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss the advancements made, and Defense Minister Lloyd Austin will meet with Ukrainian representatives.
Trump expressed his anticipation for future meetings with both President Zelensky and President Putin, but only once an agreement to conclude the war is finalized or nearing completion.
The White House leader added that he, along with Vice President Mike Pence, the secretaries of defense and state, and his chief of staff, will be monitoring the progress reports closely.
This comes amid ongoing discussions regarding Trump’s 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine, involving delegates from the U.S., European powers, and representatives in Switzerland.
