Participants of Tehran meeting call integration of Afghanistan into regional political and economic processes essential

KABUL: Participants in the meeting of “Special Representatives from Afghanistan’s Neighboring Countries and Russia” issued a joint statement emphasizing the need for the lifting of global sanctions and the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets by the international community.
Iran’s state media, IRIB, reported today, that the participants underscored the importance of maintaining economic and trade relations between regional countries and Afghanistan, deeming the integration of Afghanistan into regional political and economic processes essential.
One section of the statement highlights the emphasis on strengthening stability in Afghanistan and expresses readiness to assist in achieving this if requested by the Afghan authorities.
Delegations from Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, China, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan voiced their opposition to the presence of any foreign forces in Afghanistan, stressing the necessity of regional cohesion and a regional approach to addressing the challenges facing these countries.
The Tehran meeting was hosted by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and involved the special representatives of the aforementioned countries.
