Pakistan tightens border security with Iran amid rising unrest

KABUL: Following the recent surge of unrest in Iran, Pakistan has intensified its security measures along its border with the country.
According to the Islamabad Times, reports indicate that officials from Pakistan’s Balochistan province have stated that these heightened security measures aim to prevent the spillover of security challenges from Iran into Pakistani territory.
Hamza Shafqat, Deputy Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Home Department in Balochistan, confirmed the security challenges along the border between the two countries. He noted that the Pakistan-Iran border is not secure, making it difficult for border security forces deployed in Balochistan to protect every inch of it.
Pakistani officials have advised residents in the border areas to carry adequate documentation while traveling and to remain vigilant.
The report highlights: “Balochistan has deep ethnic, linguistic, and tribal ties with adjacent regions in Iran, raising concerns about the strengthening of local militia networks or the formation of refugee waves, which complicates the already fragile security environment.”
Currently, Pakistani forces along the border with Iran are reported to be on high alert.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan shares a 909-kilometer border with Iran.
