UNAMA calls for an immediate ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan

KABUL: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has once again called for an immediate end to the ongoing clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In a statement issued Tuesday, UNAMA urged all parties involved to adhere to international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians.

The statement noted: “In line with its mandate from the UN Security Council, UNAMA continues to document incidents of civilian casualties inside Afghanistan. Aid agencies have also warned that the humanitarian consequences for the Afghan population are worsening, including widespread displacement and disruptions to relief operations.”

The appeal for civilian protection comes as a deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said earlier Tuesday that 110 people, including 65 women, have been martyred in various provinces as a result of Pakistani military attacks.
