Ali Khamenei’s son Mojtaba Khamenei elected as successor of late Supreme Leader

KABUL: As intense fighting between Iran, the United States, and Israel continues, some Western media outlets have reported on the succession of Iran’s late religious leader.

The New York Times reported early Wednesday, that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ali Khamenei, has been selected as his father’s successor by the Assembly of Experts.

However, Iranian state media have not yet officially confirmed Mojtaba Khamenei’s selection.

Following the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran and the reported death of Ali Khamenei, constitutional procedures were reportedly initiated to appoint a new Supreme Leader.

The new religious leader assumes office at a critical time, facing the dual challenge of managing the ongoing war with the United States and Israel while also maintaining domestic legitimacy for Iran’s governing institutions.
