Pakistani shelling and mortar fire caused civilian casualties in Afghanistan, UN spokesman

KABUL: Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said that shelling and mortar fire by Pakistani military forces into parts of Afghanistan have resulted in civilian casualties.

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday night, he said in addition to civilian martyrdom, particularly among children, residential homes have also sustained serious damage due to the Pakistani military attacks.

He further emphasized that continued clashes, now in their seventh day, between Afghan and Pakistani forces have restricted access to affected areas along the disputed Durand Line.

Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) had also called for a halt to fighting.

The clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have now entered their eighth consecutive day.
