KABUL: The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Afghanistan today, as tensions continue following more than ten days of clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to a statement released by the council, the session will take place at 3:00 p.m. New York time on Monday, which corresponds to 11:30 p.m. in Kabul.
The briefing session will be held publicly, during which Georgette Gagnon, Deputy Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, will present a report on the situation in Afghanistan.
The statement added that closed consultations among council members are expected to follow the public meeting.
It is not yet clear whether the ongoing clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan’s military authorities will be discussed during the session.
Previously, a spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate stated that holding UN Security Council meetings regarding Afghanistan would not lead to any meaningful outcome.
